BASIX Report - For Building a Sustainable Home and a Green Planet

The deteriorating environment condition is a worldwide concern and the government of New South Wales, Australia is doing a splendid job to reduce the greenhouse effects. The builder of all new residential dwelling types in NSW needs to submit the Basix Report before the final assessment.

A scheme called BASIX, i.e. Building Sustainability Index is a requirement for the homeowners, and home builders have to fulfil before starting the constructions. The report gives a green signal that your planned structure is energy efficient.

As per a report of Sydney Water, the people and government of NSW were able to save 37.6% in 2009 and 40.6% in 2008 actual water. It aims to save between $294 million and $1.1 billion by 2050. In further reading, we have examined the current BASIX measures and information for homebuilders of NSW.

From BASIX establishment in 2004 till now, it has verified over 460,000 certificates to homes. The certificate is required for single dwellings, multi dwellings, alternations, and addition of dwelling that cost $50,000 or more, a swimming pool, spa room, and sauna of 40,000 litres or more water. Even this certification is required for repairing and installing a pool at a certain level.

Achievements and Target

NSW BASIX clearly aims to make a difference of 40% in greenhouse gas emission and water consumption between the Pre Basix and post Basix development. Talking about the achievement, since its establishment, BASIX norm is able to save 281 billion litres of drinking water which is equal to 112,573 Olympic swimming pool and 8.8 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emission which is equivalent to 1.8 million off the road car.

84% of new BASIX home now uses recycled or tank water for laundry, irrigation, and toilets, which helps in reducing the water and electricity cost. Thus, these small steps can make a huge difference in emitting global warming problem.

BASIX authority set different energy targets based on the type and location of the home to ensure it remains fair and cost-effective for everyone. The targets are focused on water efficiency, thermal comfort, and energy-saving.

Getting the Certificate

Before construction, make sure to check the checklist template for your structure and fill the online assessment. Usually, assessor complete sustainable evaluation. Once the design of the project and fees is paid, the certificate will be issued. The assessor can assist you in achieving the standard of BASIX certificate, the reduction of construction cost, and meeting the guidelines of the BCA Section J report. From planning to the final building design, you can rely on them for the right and wise choice.
