What Is Section J?

Climate zones drive the rest of the Section J requirements by state. A building in cool Melbourne needs more insulation than one in warm Brisbane, and far-north Queensland faces stricter solar and roof rules again.

What Does a Section J Report Cover?

The report proves that your design meets the energy rules across all major systems. A qualified assessor prepares it and lodges it with your application.

It typically assesses:

  • Building fabric, including roof, wall, and floor insulation
  • Glazing performance and solar heat gain
